Adventure Poker Run Fun Raises Over 5K

What do swimming, bowling, a giant slip n' slide, a beaver clock, and a wheelchair obstacle course have in common?

They were all part of the fun at the Adventure Poker Run, held on Saturday, August 1st as part of Deep River's Summerfest.

Participants made their way around Deep River in a variety of fashions; biking, driving, ATV's, and even walking, completing a different challenge at each of the five checkpoints before receiving their poker card.

At Lamure Beach, adventurers took the plunge and swam out to the dock to retrieve their card from volunteer Mandy Morrow who spent the day sun tanning waiting to deal the cards! At the Canadian Clock Museum host Allan Symons toured participants around his impressive collection while they searched for the special clock featuring a beaver. Deep River & District Health hosted an obstacle course donning participants in a complete Tyvek suit before they navagated the course pushing a wheelchair through the grass. 

Things got slippery at the Mount Martin Ski Hill where participants flew down a giant slip n' slide, while the Deep River Bowling Alley challenged everyone to knowck down all the pins before earning their next card.

Together, participants and sponsors helped raise more than $5K for the Get On Board: Connecting Community campaign, which seeks to purchase accessible vehicles for the Four Seasons Lodge Long-Term Care Home at DRDH.

The day ended with an unforgettable grand-prize victory. Zoe Leblanc completed the event with an incredible hand of four aces - and she did it without any extra attempts! She was so ecstatic about the win, she celebrated with a complete gymnastics routine on the field.
