Mobility in Motion Brings Accessibility to Run For Home
The Deep River & District Health Foundation is ensuring everyone has the opportunity to take part in Run For Home this year with a special new addition called Mobility in Motion.
Generously sponsored by Cahoon's Pharmasave, this accessible portion of the event is designed for individuals with mobility challenges and offers a shorter paved route that can be enjoyed alongside caregivers, family members, and friends.
Registration for participants with ambulatory challenges is completely free, while community members who simply wish to participate in this portion of the event are welcome to join by donation. The remaining distances; 2km, 5km, 10km, and half marathon have a minimum registration fee of $30.
“This is an opportunity for everyone to experience and participate in Run For Home, inspired by the residents of the Four Seasons Lodge (FSL) at Deep River & District Health (DRDH)” said Janna Hotson, President and Chief Executive Officer of DRDH. “They are at the heart of the Get On Board: Connecting Community campaign, and their involvement helped inspire a broader vision. Mobility in Motion reflects our belief that community events should be accessible to everyone.”
You can support their team, the 4SL Flyers, by pledging your support at drdhfoundation.com/fundraisers/4sl-flyers or by calling the foundation office at 613-584-3333 x7140.
Taking place on Saturday, June 27th, Run For Home continues to grow as one of the region’s major community fundraising events, featuring routes throughout the Four Seasons Conservancy trails, family activities, entertainment, and opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate. All proceeds raised will support the Get On Board: Connecting Community campaign, an initiative focused on purchasing accessible vehicles for the FSL long-term care home.
Accessible transportation is becoming increasingly vital as DRDH prepares to expand the current Four Seasons Lodge into a new 96-bed residence. The expansion will bring more residents into care, but also increases the need for safe, reliable transportation that allows residents to attend medical appointments, participate in outings, and remain connected to the community they call home.
“Maintaining connections within the community is essential for residents living in long-term care,” said Hotson. “Access to reliable transportation allows residents to attend appointments, participate in community activities, and maintain meaningful connections outside of the home.”
